Our newsletter lists upcoming garden events. Here's a list of events a little further down the line for those of you who like to look ahead and make plans. If you'd like a garden event listed, email us by clicking here and providing the date, time, a description of the even, any details important for our readers to knowt and any charges associated with the event.

Saturdays, January 7 to March 31
Learn on Saturdays
Des Moines Botanical Center
Each Saturday in January, February and March the Des Moines Botanical Center has two gardening experts give hour long classes about different gardening subjects. Fees for each Saturday morning are $5 for Friends members, Volunteers and Master Gardeners; $10 for the general public. Pay at the door or reserve in advance by sending an email to emcdonald@botanicalcenter.com.

Friday, February 10
Orchid Affair - Members Only Reception
Reiman Gardens, Ames
Members, visit Reiman Gardens for the Orchid Affair from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A special orchid pre-sale and viewing event, the Orchid Affair, will give you the first glimpse of the various orchid varieties. Members will also have the opportunity to participate in a pre-sale and visit with all the orchid vendors while enjoying a comfortable night out. The Orchid Affair will feature orchid vendors, hors d’oeuvres and wine samples. Members attending may purchase wine by the bottle and enjoy live jazz. Plant Sale: Scented Geraniums and More!
Des Moines Botanical Center
The Volunteer Advisory Counci's annual Scented Geranium Sale features a selection of scented geraniums, rosemary, streptocarpus, ivy and more. Noon to 4 p.m. Plants are $5 each.

Monday and Tuesday, February 13 and 14
Valentine Dinner
Des Moines Botanical Center
Enjoy an elegant, romantic Valentine dinner under the dome. Seating is limited and reservations are required. Doors open at 6 p.m. with dinner served at 7 p.m. Call 515-323-6289 for reservations.

Central Iowa Water Garden Association (CIWGA)
Ty Smedes, renowned Iowa wildlife and nature photographer and author, will speak about his photographs and love of Iowa's natural beauty.
This free meeting is at 7 p.m. & open to the public and will be held at the Botanical Center in the Swartz Room. Mr. Smedes is known for his photos of waterfowl, Iowa prairies, agriculture, small town and cultural events. For additional information, please contact Judy Anderson 278-0939.

Toddler Time, Des Moines Botanical Center
Enjoy a story with a garden theme, music and movement. Accompanied by an adult caregiver, shildren ages 1 to 3 are invited to dance, sing and play. No pre-registration required. Starts at 10 a.m. Admission: children 1 to 3, $1; regular rates for others.
